Antioxidants
In addition to their specific functions, certain vitamins also act as antioxidants. They can capture and neutralize so-called free radicals and thus protect cells from oxidative stress.
These are:
- Beta-carotene (provitamin A)
- vitamin C
- Vitamin E
- the trace element selenium
Free radicals mainly affect our bodies from the outside and are contained in exhaust fumes, smog, ozone and cigarette smoke, for example. But they can also be produced by our bodies themselves, for example through increased stress in everyday life.
Antioxidants are particularly important because they support the functioning of our organism.
